So with the NSW school holidays fast approaching its got me thinking.. How on earth am I going to survive with both of them home? We wont be going away anywhere with number 3 so close to arriving. So what are my options?
Well for starters I can kill two birds with one stone. I can get my physical exercise and keep the kids occupied. How? If exercise equals boredom for you, think back on your favourite childhood activity. What did you enjoy doing as a youngster? Having fun will motivate you and the health benefits will then become a bonus. If – and if being the operative word, you can ‘con’ Hubby into joining you make it a family affair. Living locally in Campbelltown, you’re at a great place to go anywhere. Wollongong beach is only 30 minutes away- Hit the beach, chase the kids on the sand, explore the rock pools, and Swim (water temperature permitting!) Not only will you be providing the kids with some fantastic memories but its going be better for them than sitting in front of the PlayStation all day! If the beach really just isn’t your thing ( I personally LOVE the beach, however HATE the sand!) Head out to the Botanical Gardens at Mount Anna. There are some great nature walks and open spaces for the kids to run. Take a ball and gets a game of soccer happening!
But don’t just limit yourself to our Local area. Think outside the box. We live in a gorgeous country and there are some pretty amazing things to do all within budget and range.
Have you ever seen a stone castle? As Kids we always used to visit Oatley Park. They have a MASSIVE play area, swimming baths and a stone castle to picnic in. It’s a council run park so its free! There are BBQ facilities available too!
So its all good and well to say jump in the car and do this and do that. But with the ever rising price of living how can we still have fun but be physically active?
Catch a train! This is something we have done SO many times before. We packed up a picnic lunch and headed to the station. Then let the kids decided where we were headed for the day. We've had Picnics in Hyde Park, Manly Beach ( the boys LOVED the ferry!), Been the Muesum and just gone for a general walk around the city!
But what about food? Well as much as it would be nice to just grab a burger and a drink. This can equate to lots of $$$ (and no, taking a bush walk will not increase your chances of finding that sacred Money tree!!) So why not do a Yogi Bear and grab that Pic-A-Nic Basket? Picnics are a fantastic money saving alternative andddd atleast then you know the kids will eat whats packed! But what to pack? Well you can always do the tried and tested favourites of sandwiches, Cut fruits, Chips, Cold BBQ Chook and Rolls and Cheese and Bikkies - But please dont do what my DARLING hubby done one day.. and buy Ice Creams to put in the Esky.. THEY REALLY DO NOT LAST LONG!!! lol
Or you can go for a more creative alternative... Whilst looking for trusty recipes I stumbled across a site. They have a whole section dedicated to picnic food. If you do attempt any of these we would love to hear how you go!!!
Andddddd what do you know.. It rains! So what now??? What can we do to keep kidlets amused now? Well we personally have a Wii. This can be SO much fun! - If you play dumb and let the kids "teach" you they will enjoy themselves soooooo much more. So why video games? Well with the Wii, we are lucky enough to have"exercise" games, meaning Wii Sports, Zumba, Biggest Loser etc etc. So technically, your not really sitting on your bum!
OK so the eyes are hurting from the screen, and your arms are sore from smashing the Mii in boxing.. What now? Well.. Look online, there are some pretty good sites dedicated to learning materials for kids with free printables. Master 10 and I sit down and do the same sudoko ( print 2 copies) and we race to see who finishes first.... He ALWAYS wins.
You could surprise hubby with a Easter Decorated House with all the kids crafts!
You could always do a REAL Mamabake thing and get in the Kitchen.. and get baking! Let them make homemade pizzas for lunch ( see previous post on pizzas!), Bake Muffins- And it doesnt matter how many you make cause you can freeze them and then put them in your picnic baskets... these will last longer than the ice cream! Even to the extent of making some chocolate for Daddy or Nanny and Poppy to give for Easter! They could then make cards to go with their gifts ( another hour occupied - while you clean up the mess... Sorry but you know THAT is inevitable! lol)
So theres a few alternatives to keep the boredom at bay. If you do happen to do something exciting, make sure you let us know at Mamabakeinmacarthur@gmail.com.
Well Washing Machine is beeping and I dont think the cleaning fairies are going to make an appearance today so I best be A) firing them! and B) Doing it myself!!
Sending lots of Love and Light
