Hello lovelies - long time no blog.
Well - it's been a little bit hectic in MamaBake In Macarthur land of late - big developments are happenening behind the scenes - so here's an update.
Last week I had a meeting with Department of Housing and Work Ventures to begin the planning process for MamaBake In Macarthur moving into Claymore.
Now rather than just a 'simple' MamaBake In Macarthur group establishing in the Claymore Community, the plan is to roll it out as a structured and supported programme. This will hopefully ensure the longevity and success of the programme.
So right now I'm planning away (in between children being sick/being sick myself) with the view that we will have this up and running by July 1st. Being a Joint Venture between the Dept and Work Ventures will hopefully mean that despite the fact we are not an NFP or an Inc body we will be able to access Government grants to fund the programme further (in terms of subsidising ingredients, providing childcare etc etc).
This is a massive step forward for our group - the potential for further similar programmes is huge - the officers I have been liasing with at the Department of Housing are hopeful this will be a 'pilot' programme of sorts with the view to roll it out into other communities in the Macarthur Region as time goes on.
So that's the exciting news at the moment - we still meet every friday at Tallowood, random batch cooking days but what I'm proud of is the feedback I'm getting in terms of people really thinking about what they are cooking now (not just from a financial but a nutritional point of view) and more importantly the new friendships that have been formed from the group - it's a beautiful thing to be a part of.
