I promised a blog on the new direction so here it is...I have also promised myself I would never write in a public space/blog from a place of anger but I'm a little hurt, upset and disappointed right now so will break that rule.
Life happens, things change and I understand - hell if a parent of 4 children can't see that life throws us curveballs no one will - but unfortunately three days a week (aka the days we do things with MamaBake) I am not home in the morning, I get up, get 4 children ready, get them out the door by 8am, do the daycare drop off, do the school drop off, volunteer at school, come home for 5 seconds on some days to pick up my husband and take him to the station or most times I'm straight from school to wherever we are - I don't turn on a computer until I get home for the day (in today's case closer to 4pm) so if you can't make it please let someone know - if you don't have my phone number let me know and I'll post it again in our group.
Special thanks must go today to my lovely gals who came and saved me from being a nigel no friends - Mel, Lauren, Lucinda (sorry I left you walking the street), Clare and Michelle I cannot thank you enough for what you did today - standing on the corner for 30 minutes was possibly one of the most embarrassing moments of my life - wondering if I had a) screwed up the date or b) screwed up the time - turns out I was in the right place at the right time.
I toddled inside to tell the lovely Tracey from Macarthur Care Pair that her services were not required today nor would they be in the future - I feel as though it is a service that could be better utilised by another group, especially since I know that James is basically the only child that would potentially require care every week (and even then in the space he doesn't - if I can't keep an eye on him from 3m away I need to give up parenting now to be brutally honest). There is nothing at all they can 'hurt' themselves on - the doors are all lockable - the front door facing onto Dickens Road is locked and the gate has a padlock on it (that no one can find the key for), the rear sliding door can be closed and if necessary we can close and lock the back gate so they can also frolic in a fully enclosed outdoor space.
The kitchen door can be shut but there is still a serving window so you can see out - the space is close to the size of one of the old school single level department of housing areas - absolutely fantastic space to work in - amazing prep area out where the children will be able to roam around (there is also a TV and DVD player should the need arise on really cold/wet days where they start to go a little loopy).
All in all - a fantastic space - and one which I will be sad to see go because I cannot in all good conscious monopolise a space (especially when a group has moved from that space into another one for us) if I cannot guarantee to the organisation running the location of a consistent turn out - especially knowing how limited space/time is for this organisations and the money involved in allowing us to utilise the area for free (hence the reasoning for removing child care in the interim as I cannot in good faith allow a NFP to pay for a service that would be used predominately by one child).
So moving forward...
As you are aware Tallowood has been 'dedicated' as an access point to various speakers - next week (at this stage) we are looking at having a Nutritionist come out to speak to us. Now because we have these individuals who are giving up their time to come and educate/answer questions it has been decided that the big cooking just simply will not work.
Instead we have decided that we will have a theme (next week for example is Black - in honor of it being Friday the 13th) - what we will all do is cook something involving the theme and will share the food whilst we have the guest speaker on - this will enable us to 'cook' from 10-12ish, then have a little feast whilst someone comes into the space for those remaining 2 hours.
The following week's theme (save events like Biggest Morning Tea) will be decided the week before (ie next week we will decide for the 20th of May) and attendees need to confirm by the Tuesday of the following week (ie confirmation for the 13th of May must be made by the 10th of May). As for the size of the dish you make - it's the same size as you would take when you are asked to 'bring a plate' - nothing huge, nothing over the top, nothing fancy - and most importantly it's to have FUN with something you mightn't necessarily have thought about doing before.
